Welcome to Y Seren Country Hotel
Y Seren is a unique boutique country hotel situated in the picturesque rolling hills of Llangynnwr in the outskirts of Caerfyrddin.
Built C.1891, Y Seren started out in life as Brynderwen, or Oak Hill in English. The house was the residence of the Prosser family, previously of Ty-Gwyn, Llangynnwr. Perhaps its most famous occupant was David Prosser, Bishop of St. Davids from 1928 until his death in 1951. Bishop Prosser was notably also Archbishop of Wales from 1944 to 1949.
The building first became a hotel in 1979, before closing in 1984 to become a residential care home. The building has been extended significantly in recent years, yet still retains the character of an old country house. Today, the tree covered driveway leads up to a building surrounded by around 5 acres of tranquil woodlands and lush meadows.
The name Y Seren was chosen to honour some local history, as there was once a public house called The Star Inn less than 60 metres away from our driveway.
It is intended that the building will feature a large restaurant and function room, able to cater for up to 150 people, a bar and snug area and approximately 24 bedrooms spanning 3 separate accommodation areas, aptly named Towy, Cothi and Gwili. We will also provide a well equipped gym and will have two spa treatment rooms available to hotel guests and the public.
Y Seren will be serving breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and evening meals to both hotel guests and the public. Weddings, affirmation ceremonies, birthday celebrations, end-of-life celebrations, christenings, baby showers and more will be catered for, either in our large function room or outside in our meadow.
Building work is well underway with a view to open in the Autumn of 2025. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

An Update On Y Seren
We’ve been eagerly preparing to open our doors this August and share Y Seren with you, but unfortunately, like many journeys worth taking, ours has met a small bump in the road.
Due to the need for a new power line to be installed to the premises - for which we currently don’t have a confirmed timeline - we’ll need to postpone our August opening. Whilst this was not the news we hoped to share with you all, it’s part of the process of getting everything just right for when we are able to welcome you all in.
We can’t thank everyone enough for their enthusiasm, interest and most of all patience and support, it truly means the world.
But, there is one fine silver lining. This extra time gives us an opportunity to continue to fine-tune everything and add extra little touches to make sure that when the moment arrives, Y Seren is even more special than imagined.
We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more, and in the meantime, thank you again for your patience and continued support. We promise it’ll be worth the wait.
